I want to believe change is coming at Newcastle.
I want to believe we've turned a corner.
I want to believe we will have a good transfer window.
I want to believe we will follow that up with more signings next year.
I want to believe we will have a team that is fighting for a place in Europe on merit in 2016.
But I have seen too many false dawns during the reign of Mike Ashley.
One read through this list of transfers ( http://howaythetoon.co.uk/newcastle-united-transfers-mike-ashley/ ) and it is plain to see that every time we seem like we are adding one or two players of quality we whittle away at the depth of the squad and we fail to build on any momentum we have gained. For years now we've (at best) had a decent 11 but once you get past those first players, the "purples" as they were called, there was nothing behind nobody to lift us in the depths of winter when the injuries pile up and times are tough, nobody to push the likes of Colo to fight for a place he already knows is his, nobody to bring on to rally the fans in the dying minutes of a game. (More left backs won't do that).
Maybe this is the new dawn.
Maybe Mike Ashley's words on sky weren't lies meant to boost ticket sales.
Maybe watching Jonas become a legend in his last game will be the catalyst that sparks a bridging of the growing rift between fans and the club.
Maybe Steve McClaren is the man to take us forward.
Maybe signing Georginio Wijnaldum was the beginning of the revolution.
Maybe I'll want to get up at 4am to watch games for pleasure rather than duty.
Maybe by the first kickoff of the 2016/17 season there will once more be a team in black and white I can be proud of, but for now I am cautious and as I travel to support my beloved NUFC in Sacramento I will continue to be #AshleyOut
